Before joining CAA, he served as vice president of public policy and communications for the San Jose/Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce and as a senior aide to a former San Jose City Council member. Late in the film his relationship with Kathy grows seriously troubled; he assaults her one night in a pub, and while shes still recovering he refuses to take her to the historic Monterey Pop Festival.
