Bio

Darren was born in 1977 in Port Angeles, WA.

He learned to juggle in the 4th grade and at age thirteen began working with a local puppet troupe.  Darren and his father, Terry Collins, faithfully watched An Evening At the Improv on A&E when Darren was a teenager.  He always took time to video tape the last comedian of each show who was often a juggler, ventriloquist, magician, or prop comedian. Being the last of 5 children, Darren’s parents encouraged him to pursue whatever dream he desired.  Performing was it.

In 1997, just under a year after graduating high school Darren took a job teaching puppetry to children’s educators across the USA.  He toured 145 cities in 8 months.  In 1998 he moved to Texas with $15 and the promise of a job, and continued to teach puppeteers and perform juggling and magic along the way.  By year 2001 he had performed in over 45 states and half a dozen countries.

In 2001 he began performing stand-up comedy as a hobby and started a career as a full time motivational comedian, performing magic and juggling and stand up at churches, schools, comedy clubs and corporate events.  He continued to teach workshops and seminars on the subject of “using the variety arts to teach children”.  He authored several short run creative arts manuals, a book on juggling, and produced a “how to juggle” DVD.

From 1999 – 2008 Darren worked off and on with a humanitarian aid organization based in Cambodia, developing germ theory educational school shows, and helped start a puppet TV show that teaches about water borne illness, AIDS, bird flu, and other health and educated related programs.  Equipping non-profits for education became a passion, and Darren worked in Thailand, Colombia, China, Cuba, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Singapore.

Darren currently works primarily doing family comedy shows in the corporate arena and performing specialized “Edu-tainment” shows in public schools.

When Darren isn’t performing or travelling to perform, he works in his office at the puppet factory helping start and maintain the business at www.puppetsinc.com near Dallas, TX.

When not working Darren pursues hobbies based on various passion projects that are larger than life.  Darren is developing an AIDS AWARENESS live puppet show for use in Africa.  Additionally, in 2011 Darren has travelled around the USA and Central America learning and implementing unique housing solutions for developing countries and disaster relief situations.
